TCU calibration · United Kingdom

Gearbox remapping for UK customers

Transmission control unit (TCU) calibrations are more specialised than engine remaps, and support varies widely between gearbox codes and software versions. That is one reason drivers from outside Greater Manchester sometimes contact us about gearbox remapping.

All work is carried out at our single Manchester workshop. Before you travel, we check compatibility against your registration and discuss the gearbox's condition.

Compatibility before travel

Dual-clutch gearboxes (DSG, S tronic and similar) and torque-converter automatics each have their own control units, torque limits and adaptation strategies. Whether a calibration is available, and whether it suits your vehicle, depends on the exact gearbox, its software version and the engine's torque. We confirm what we can before you make the journey.

Gearbox condition matters

A TCU calibration does not fix a mechanical or hydraulic problem. Slipping, flare, judder, harsh shifts or a gearbox warning light need diagnosis first, and it may not be sensible to drive a long distance with those symptoms. Fluid service history matters too. Please describe how the gearbox behaves now when you get in touch.

For full detail on gearbox work, see our Manchester gearbox remapping page and our TCU remapping guide.

How we approach a gearbox remap from outside Manchester

We start with suitability rather than a sales pitch. Before any calibration is written to a control unit we want to know the vehicle is healthy: existing fault codes, boost or fuelling problems, a slipping clutch, a worn gearbox or a blocked DPF all need to be dealt with first, because tuning is not a substitute for repair and can make an existing weakness more obvious.

Where the vehicle is supported we explain what the proposed calibration is intended to change, what checks are needed and what the agreed scope of work includes. We do not publish universal power, torque or fuel-economy figures, because results depend on the individual vehicle, its condition, its software and how it is driven. If a remap is not the right answer for your vehicle, we will tell you.

Planning the journey for customers from outside Greater Manchester

We are one workshop in north Manchester. We do not have branches elsewhere in the UK and we do not offer mobile remapping, so customers from outside Greater Manchester either drive to us or arrange transport. That is a real commitment, and we do not want anyone to make a long journey for work that turns out to be unsuitable. Send the registration, mileage and a description first; we will check support and talk through the likely scope before you book a date.

For a longer journey, please plan the timing with us. A remap or diagnostic visit can take several hours depending on the vehicle and what the checks reveal, and some work may not be completed in a single day if a fault is found. If the vehicle has a fault that makes a long drive unwise — limp mode, a flashing warning, an AdBlue countdown near zero or a coolant leak — arrange transport rather than driving it.

What to send us before booking a gearbox remap from outside Manchester

The quickest way to get useful advice is to send the registration and a short description by WhatsApp or through the quote form. Support and suitability vary by engine, gearbox, control unit and software version, so a registration lets us check the right information instead of guessing. Any estimate given remotely is provisional until the vehicle has been seen and the required checks are complete.

  • 01Vehicle registration and approximate mileage

  • 04Existing remaps, tuning boxes or hardware modifications
  • 05How the vehicle is used — commuting, towing, short trips or heavy loads
  • 06Whether the vehicle is currently in limp mode or will not start
