Remapping questions
- Is remapping safe for my engine? ↗
Is an ECU remap safe? An honest answer: it depends on the engine's condition, the calibration and how it is driven. What to check before you remap your vehicle.
- Does a remap void my warranty? ↗
Will a remap affect your car's warranty? It may affect manufacturer or extended cover depending on the terms. What to check with your provider first.
- Do I need to tell my insurer about a remap? ↗
Yes — tell your insurer about a remap before the work and get their acceptance. Why it matters, what happens if you do not declare it, and what to ask them.
- What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2? ↗
Stage 1 is software for standard hardware; Stage 2 depends on supporting hardware and a careful condition assessment. A clear answer, no inflated figures.
- Can you remap an automatic gearbox? ↗
Many automatic and dual-clutch gearboxes can be remapped via their TCU, but support depends on the gearbox, software version and condition. How to find out.
- Will a remap improve fuel economy? ↗
Will a remap save fuel? It depends on the vehicle and mostly on how it is driven. Some drivers notice a change, some do not. Why we never promise fuel savings.
- How long does a remap take? ↗
How long a remap takes depends on the vehicle, its control unit, the checks needed and whether faults are found. Why we plan visits with you before you arrive.
- Can you remap a van? ↗
Many modern diesel vans can be remapped, but support depends on engine, ECU and software, and condition, load and usage matter. How we assess vans.
DPF and diesel fault questions
- Why does my DPF light keep coming on? ↗
A recurring DPF light usually means soot is not being burned off. Common causes: short trips, faulty sensors, EGR or injector faults and failed regenerations.
- Can a blocked DPF be cleaned? ↗
Often, yes — if the filter is not damaged and the cause of the blockage is fixed. When cleaning works, when replacement is needed and why diagnosis is first.
- Is a DPF delete legal in the UK? ↗
For road vehicles, removing a factory-fitted DPF is an MOT failure and using a vehicle that no longer meets its emissions standards is an offence risk.
- What causes limp mode on a diesel? ↗
Diesel limp mode is a protective response to a detected fault — often boost leaks, turbo control, DPF restriction, EGR, fuel pressure or sensors.
What to send us before booking a question
The quickest way to get useful advice is to send the registration and a short description by WhatsApp or through the quote form. Support and suitability vary by engine, gearbox, control unit and software version, so a registration lets us check the right information instead of guessing. Any estimate given remotely is provisional until the vehicle has been seen and the required checks are complete.
- 01Vehicle registration and approximate mileage
- 02Make, model and engine size, if known
- 03Any warning lights, messages, symptoms or fault codes
- 04Existing remaps, tuning boxes or hardware modifications
- 05How the vehicle is used — commuting, towing, short trips or heavy loads
- 06Whether the vehicle is currently in limp mode or will not start
Visiting the workshop for advice in person
All work is carried out at our single workshop at Unit 2, Lancaster Works, Kingsbridge Road, Manchester M9 5SP. We do not run a mobile remapping service and we have no other branches, so every advice in person enquiry is booked into the same Manchester workshop. Visits are by arrangement: please call or WhatsApp before travelling so we can confirm the vehicle, the time and what the visit will involve.
Access is through the black gate. Call when you arrive so we can let you in, then keep left towards the rear of the site. We are open Monday to Friday 8am–6pm and Saturday 8am–1pm, and closed on Sunday. If the vehicle is in limp mode, showing a serious warning or will not start, tell us before setting off so we can talk about whether it is sensible to drive it or whether transport should be arranged.
